Ideal Heating is one of Hull’s longest-standing companies with more than 100 years of providing the best quality boilers under its belt. Founded in 1906, the innovative company is now part of global business Groupe Atlantic and remains at the forefront of the domestic and commercial heating markets, setting new standards and challenging technological boundaries. The company remains true to its founding principles of quality, innovation and value, building on its rich heritage as it looks to the future. 


It has been continually working to meet ever-changing domestic heating needs, taking boilers from basements into kitchens in the 1920s, through to introducing pioneering high-efficiency technologies, and always focusing on delivering reliable products designed with their customers in mind. 


The company remains true to its founding principles of quality, innovation and value, building on its rich heritage as it looks to the future. 


The ‘problem’ 

The well-known firm employs around 700 people, many of whom work directly on building boilers and in the warehouse, and it takes its duty of care to its staff very seriously. 


This not only means ensuring everyone on-site is meeting or surpassing the relevant standards of good health and safety practice, but that anyone who has the courage to step forward and say they have a problem with substances is well supported – and testing forms part of that system. 


Ideal Heating’s drug and alcohol screening was originally managed through a combination of in-house testing with analysis provided by an external supplier, but the company wasn’t entirely satisfied with either the effectiveness or value for money of this approach.



The solution

Lemon Cherry entered the picture in 2014, and since then has been Ideal Heating’s go-to provider of drug and alcohol screening. 


We’ve formed an excellent working relationship, not only for ‘for cause’ testing, but also for drug awareness training. In these presentations, we discuss with line managers and supervisors the different kinds of signs to look out for, and what illegal substances look like.  


We’ve also responded to call-outs and performed a factory search with our sniffer dog, which provides a very clear demonstration of how seriously the company takes the issue of drug and alcohol testing.


The results

Our response times are second-to-none and we ensure that whenever Ideal Heating needs us, we’re there as quickly as possible. 


We also treat everyone involved in the process with dignity and respect, putting them at ease with our friendly, non-accusatory attitude. 


This is an excellent example of a positive partnership that works really well, particularly in supporting such a reputable company’s aims of raising awareness among its workforce about the importance of drug and alcohol testing.
